Baya Mahieddine (1931-1998) was a self-taught Algerian painter whose vibrant work, populated by women, nature, and animals, left its mark on modern art. Her unique style, characterized by vivid colors outlined in black, was recognized in Paris when she was just 16, notably by André Breton and Picasso.
